my story
I am a passionate and creative dance teacher, choreographer, and performer with more than twenty-five years' experience working and performing in Australia and abroad. I’m a qualified Dance Teaching and Dance (Elite Performance) graduate, receiving Honours in my final teaching exams.
I am especially interested in the ways that dance can be used to make a difference in communities and help students to develop personal agency and confidence.
Over my career I have taught hundreds of students from around the globe. My own dance education began in early childhood. I received extensive training in Hobart and Melbourne under the guidance of notable teachers Jenina Evans, Rosemary Robnen, Margaret Stirling, Donna DePaoli, Brian Nolan, Pamela Apostolidis and Sonny Jose.
At age 16 I relocated to Victoria after successfully auditioning for full-time study in performing arts at Dance World 301 while also attending The National Theatre for acting and stage classes, all credits towards a Diploma of Performing Arts.
My main achievements during those formative years included winning the senior championship section modern dance solo and other overall titles at the Southern Federation of Dance competitions and professional contracts with the NBL and WWF as a commercial/touring dancer. I also successfully auditioned for roles in professional productions and performed regularly with theatre companies at the Playhouse theatre and Theatre Royal.
Overseas I was a contracted dancer throughout events in the UK, Belgium and Spain from 2002- 2005
In 2005 I moved to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where I owned and operated my own dance studio, Dance World Cambodia, until 2016. My main motivation to immigrate was to take performing arts to a place where I could draw on my long professional training and experience to make a difference in the community while immersing myself in a culture deeply connected to music and dance through its history and cultural practises.
Through Dance World Cambodia I was able to work directly with differently abled children and students from a variety of backgrounds, combining different dance styles and facilitating visits by overseas choreographers Jeremy Lepine, Zach Benson, Kim Adam & Freya List (to name a few) leading to performances and engagements throughout the community.
I facilitated grassroots programs in which students collaborated in choreography and partook in fundraising dance initiatives to support local NGOs, (non-government organisations) and developed a scholarship program offering places to students from disadvantaged backgrounds. This led to me being invited to facilitate the Cambodian leg of the ‘Break the Chain- One billion rising’ global dance initiative created by author Eve Ensler with choreography by Debbie Allen, to bring attention to violence against women.
I was also invited to the board of the Australian Chamber of Commerce (AUSCHAM) in 2015.
In 2016 I bought the Russian Ballet Society (Legat mehod) syllabus to Cambodia, culminating in the esteemed Tasha Bertram visiting the studio as examiner of my students.
Through these experiences I evolved as a dance facilitator and, after seeing first- hand how my local Khmer and international students were responding to their training and education, became interested in dance as a therapeutic tool. It was this interest which led me, after returning to Australia in 2016, to create a dance therapy-play program for physically and mentally differently abled children in collaboration with Brighton Rotary Club. I also created and executed other imaginative and sensory based classes for young children at various schools from 2017-2019 and continued teaching ballet, PBT and strength & conditioning in Melbourne’s South and South East, while taking courses in dance and art therapy at Ikon institute and International Dance Therapy Institute Aus (IDTIA).
In 2019 I was invited to travel to Durban, South Africa to take part in a cultural dance exchange at townships through Mayibuye Foundation, however due to COVID-19 was cancelled.
More recently I have spent time as a student complimenting my prior training with certification in Progressing Ballet Technique, certificate of Dance Teaching & Management and a Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance) I’m also a Peaceful Kids mindfulness facilitator and have completed yoga instructor training for children and teens through the YACP Yoga Alliance & Yoga Fun. In 2025 I became a teacher of Rambert Grades (UK) a contemporary dance syllabus grounded in professional practise with an ethos of inclusive dance education which works with the whole person and develops transferable skills. I find blending these teachings into my lessons helps students regulate and embody dance training, while upskilling, extending students repertoire, and delving deeper into the ways dance intersects with creativity, innovation and community enrichment.
Recent live performance credits include dance roles with Flare Dance Company TasDance, Dark MOFO, Theatre Blacks Performing Arts, Dance Factory and Eltham Little Theatre in the role of Choreography Director for the September 2025 season of Addams Family The Musical.
Recent screen and TV dance credits include choreography and performance for international pop-star Autumn Allen’s music video ‘Gibberish’ and The Voice Australia 2023 finalist Elly Poletti’s debut single “Shadows”
I was the main movement actress in Australian country artist PJ Harding’s music video ‘A Dangerous Thing’ and starred in Sri Lankan artist Mekala’s music video ‘Unchartered Love’ in 2023. I am currently choreographing several pieces for creative agencies Little Train and Glamm productions.
In 2025, my new studio, Eltham Dance House will open, which will focus on creativity, artistry & dance technique, students will be able to train in all facets of performing arts, EDH will be in partnership with the International Dance Council, where students can study physically and theoretically to earn their Certificate of International Dance Studies in their chosen field(s)
